If you're interested to vegetate in front of the monitor for an hour and get a little perspective on Drupal today and going forward, check out this presentation from the Boston Drupalcon this past March 2009. The speaker, Dries, is the top guy in Drupal, just as Linus is the top guy for Linux. As you can see, Dries has a great ability to be understand the technical and personal aspects of the collaborative project. Thanks to his leadership and the contributions of thousands of others, Drupal is a robust content management system that a small or large business or individual can use to create a vibrant and reliable internet site. One last interesting insight Dries shares is the idea that the internet is at a transition point from being about pages (created/stored on single websites) to having the pages (or whatever interactive units might replace pages) reference data that comes from a variety of different sources, not just one machine, and maybe not just machines.
Insights like that, by Dries, ten and five years ago, and the execution to make the system ready for the next steps, made Drupal big today. Since Dries is still surfing the wave of progress (capable of still having those Bezos and Page insights about where the internet is going), without being derailed by personality-based or financial roadblocks, you can count on Drupal as being a good horse to bet on. If you are ready to invest in a long-term internet solution for your company, invest now - and base your solution on the system that will be on top in five years: Drupal.
